New Drug Targets MS Differently

Scientists at SCRIPPS have developed a new drug (SR1001). It stops MS by knocking out TH17, a type of white blood cell that malfunctions in patients with MS. Current treatments for autoimmunity suppress the patient’s entire immune system, leaving patients vulnerable to a range of adverse side effects. This drug targets only specific cell types. Another advantage is that it can be taken orally and not injected.
